Do you recall at school/college/university when you could never quite relax on a Sunday as there was always some work that you should be finishing?  Yes, me too….

It is the same when you host a weekly true crime podcast. There is always a script to be finishing, research to do and of course another chapter of the book that isn’t going to write itself – although with the unstoppable rise of AI, none of this will be a concern soon. Probably.

But there are some days when you just can’t be bothered. You know how it is. Last night I was in Edinburgh until late for the Beyonce concert and then there was drinks and food and today – it is Sunday morning – my appetite for work is limited to say the least. But only recently, I read something that really resonated with me about the internal fight over days like this from the excellent wisdom of Seth Godin (if you don’t already, I suggest you subscribe to his daily blog). Seth said the following:

“Our job as professionals is to show up and do the work. Not simply respond to incoming or do the chores, but to create and innovate.

And yet, some days feel more conducive than others. There are moments when it simply flows.

When the surf’s up, cancel everything else. Don’t waste it.

Postpone the dentist, outsource the grocery shopping and leave your email for now.

Make hay.”

Great advice, I think. Maybe it is time for another cup of coffee and to finally start that true crime book I have been waiting to read, on the couch with my dogs.

Tomorrow, is another day…
