True Crime & Wine: Can you solve a murder?
The case that’s baffled code breakers, the FBI and Scotland Yard: The Somerton Man
A cryptic code. A Cold War spy. An unlikely love story.
In 1948, a well-dressed man was found dead on a beach in Adelaide, South Australia. In his pocket was a scrap of paper torn from a book with the Persian phrasetaman shud (meaning ended) written on it. The police believed it to be a coded message and as a result the case attracted intense international attention, not least because of heightening Cold War tensions.
Yet despite the involvement of top code breakers, the FBI and Scotland Yard, the victim has never been identified- and the cause of death has never been proved.
Join us for an EXCLUSIVE LIVE event as we unpack the evidence in this unbelievable case – and see if you can solve it yourself.
