At one of my live shows recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Caitlin McEwan and Lizzie Manwaring. They are currently taking their play, Bible John, to London and then to Edinburgh for the festival.

It looks a fascinating play concentrating on four women who all share a mutual obsession with true crime and find a common fascination with the case of Bible John. The story examines a number of themes, often discussed at my Facebook Group,  such as why the majority of listeners and consumers of true crime are female, despite the fact that women are more likely to be victims of serial killers, who are overwhelmingly male. Exploring the roots of this fascination, whether it comes from a desire to understand and almost solve cases or whether it’s a morbid fascination with serial killers themselves, Bible John asks why we are obsessed with someone who has acted in such an inhuman way. As more and more people find true crime compelling and engrossing, the play also explores the ethical implications of deriving entertainment from something that has the exploitation and victimisation of women at its heart.

Take a look at this interview with Lizzie and Caitlin which really gives an insight into their work.
